Assa Abloy (Visionline)

Assa Abloy Visionline is an access-management system that runs on a Visionline server for the property. Connected to LIKE MAGIC, it lets guests receive a room key as an in-app mobile key or as a physical key card encoded at a kiosk or at the front desk. This guide covers connecting Visionline and mapping its locks; the guest-facing side is described in Mobile Key & Door Access for Guests.

ℹ️ Note: LIKE MAGIC supports two Assa Abloy systems. Visionline is the server-based system covered here. Vostio is the cloud system and has its own guide, Assa Abloy (Vostio), which also covers Apple and Google Wallet keys. If you are unsure which one your property runs, ask via a Support Ticket.

How should your guests open their doors?
  1. With a key card only: encoded at a kiosk or at the front desk. No app is needed, and many properties choose this.
  2. With their smartphone, through an app: LIKE MAGIC builds a native iOS and Android app published under your hotel's name, and the guest opens the door with an in-app mobile key. Key cards can be combined with it.

Apple and Google Wallet keys are not available with Visionline. The comparison table is in Mobile Key & Door Access for Guests.

1. Prerequisites

Your property brings the following before LIKE MAGIC can connect:

  • A running Visionline system, with its doors set up and named by Assa Abloy or your locksmith.
  • Network access to the Visionline server through one of the options in the next section.
  • A Visionline API user: a user name and password on the Visionline server for LIKE MAGIC.
  • For mobile keys:
    • Your property's mobile app: a native iOS and Android app published under your hotel's name, which LIKE MAGIC distributes in the App Store and Google Play. The mobile key works only in this app, not in the web browser.
    • Access to Assa Abloy's mobile-access service (Credential Services), also as a user name and password. It registers the guest's phone so that Visionline can send a key to it.
  • For key cards: Visionline encoders at the kiosk or at the front desk.

LIKE MAGIC stores these details in the property configuration. There is no self-service screen for them.

2. Network Connection to the Visionline Server

The Visionline server runs on-premise at your property. For the LIKE MAGIC cloud to reach its API, set up one of the three options (Site-to-Site VPN, firewall allowlist or internet access) described in Network Connection for On-Premise Lock Systems. For Visionline, allow traffic on port 443.

3. How the Visionline Integration Works

LIKE MAGIC talks to your Visionline server on behalf of each reservation. The platform:

  • Issues a mobile key to the guest's phone. One mobile key covers every door the stay entitles the guest to, so the guest sees a single key in the app rather than one entry per door.
  • Updates that key when the guest's access changes, for example when the room door is added once the guest is checked in and the room is ready.
  • Encodes a key card on a Visionline encoder, at a kiosk or at the front desk.
  • Checks the doors out when the stay ends, which revokes the mobile keys issued for them. Key cards expire at departure.

You do not trigger any of this yourself. It happens automatically as guests check in, receive keys and check out. Your part as operator is the one-time connection and lock mapping.

The following are not part of the LIKE MAGIC Visionline integration:

  • ❌ Remote opening over the internet, from the guest app or from the Operations Platform. A Visionline door opens only with the phone held to the lock or with a key card.
  • ❌ PIN codes.
  • ❌ Apple and Google Wallet keys. With Assa Abloy, Wallet keys are part of the Vostio integration (see Assa Abloy (Vostio)).

4. Connecting Visionline

  1. Complete the setup with Assa Abloy: the Visionline server with API access and, if you offer mobile keys, the mobile-access service.
  2. Set up the network connection (see Network Connection to the Visionline Server above).
  3. Submit the connection details (server address, Visionline API user and, for mobile keys, the mobile-access credentials) to LIKE MAGIC via a Support Ticket.
  4. LIKE MAGIC sets the property's door provider to Assa Abloy Visionline and loads the property's Visionline doors into Settings → Door Access, ready for mapping.

5. Mapping Locks

Map the Visionline doors in Settings → Door Access as described in Door Access, section Set-Up & Mapping. Two points are specific to Visionline:

  • Room doors must be Private and assigned to their unit. A guest's key includes a room door only when that door is set to Private, assigned to the reservation's unit and set to Active. Unlike Vostio, Visionline has no door type that limits which accessibility a door can take.
  • Door changes are not synced automatically. Visionline is one of the lock systems without configuration sync (see Door Access, section When a Sync Is Possible). When a door is added, renamed or removed in Visionline, request the update via a Support Ticket. LIKE MAGIC updates the door list, and you then map the new door and publish the configuration.

6. Key Media (Mobile and Card)

Visionline supports two key media, and a property can offer either or both:

  • Mobile: an in-app "hold near lock" Bluetooth key in your property's mobile app.
  • Card: a physical key card, encoded at a kiosk or by staff with Encode key card.

The mobile key works only in the app, not in the web browser. A guest who opens their stay in the browser sees links to the App Store and Google Play instead of a key. The first time the guest opens their stay in the app, the app registers the phone with Assa Abloy, and LIKE MAGIC sends the key to it as soon as the stay entitles the guest to a door. The guest does nothing else.

What the guest sees on their side is described in Mobile Key & Door Access for Guests.

7. Encoders for Key Cards

To issue physical key cards, connect the property's Visionline encoders in Settings → Door Access Encoders (see Door Access, section Connect Encoder Devices). Each encoder has a Name and an Encoder Key. The Encoder Key is the encoder's identifier in the Visionline system, which you get from Assa Abloy or find in the Visionline software. Which encoder a kiosk uses is set on the kiosk itself in Settings → Kiosks, not on the encoder.

ℹ️ Note: Encoders are only needed for key cards. A property that offers only mobile keys does not need an encoder.

8. Troubleshooting

SymptomCause and fix
No Visionline doors appear in Settings → Door Access after connectingLIKE MAGIC cannot reach the Visionline server. Check the network connection (see Network Connection to the Visionline Server) and request a check via a Support Ticket.
The guest sees App Store and Google Play links instead of a keyThe stay is open in the web browser. The mobile key works only in the app.
The key opens public doors but not the roomThe room door is not set to Private, not assigned to the unit, or set to Inactive. Correct the mapping and publish. Before check-in, and while the room is not ready, the room door is not part of the key yet (see Door Access, section Accessibility).
A new or renamed Visionline door is missing in Settings → Door AccessDoor changes are not synced automatically. Request the update via a Support Ticket.
Encoding a card failsCheck that the Encoder Key matches the encoder in Visionline and that the kiosk uses the right encoder in Settings → Kiosks.

9. Verifying the Connection

  1. In Settings → Door Access, confirm the property's Visionline doors are listed. If you issue cards, confirm your encoders in Settings → Door Access Encoders.
  2. Set a test room door to Private, assign it to a unit and publish the configuration.
  3. On a test reservation, open the stay in the app and check in. Confirm the mobile key appears, and encode a test card if you offer cards.
  4. Open the room door with both keys, then check out and confirm the mobile key no longer opens it.

10. Conclusion

Connecting Assa Abloy Visionline means connecting the Visionline server to LIKE MAGIC over a VPN, a firewall allowlist or the internet, submitting its credentials, letting LIKE MAGIC set the door provider and load the doors, and mapping each door in Door Access. Visionline delivers in-app mobile keys and key cards, and encoders are only needed if you issue cards. Always verify a full cycle of issuing, opening and check-out on a test reservation before the property goes live.
