Nuki Integration
This is a technical guide for integrating the Nuki smart lock system with LIKE MAGIC.
Introduction
On this page, you will find an overview of the integration between Nuki and our services, including the access modes available for guest access. We will outline the necessary preconditions and setup requirements, including Nuki Web API access and door access sharing. You will also learn about the configuration steps needed within Nuki Web, as well as how to set up door access for guests.
1. Door "Opening" Mode
Our integration with Nuki offers two complementary modes for opening doors:
a) "Hold to unlock"
Guests open doors remotely through our web application. They press and hold the Hold to unlock control for the door, which triggers a Nuki remote unlock action on the smart lock.
b) PIN Code Access
Where a Nuki Keypad is installed on the smart lock, guests can open the door with a 6-digit PIN code. LIKE MAGIC generates the PIN and provisions it on the keypad for the duration of the stay.
c) Configuration
Both methods can run in parallel on the same property:
- Hold to unlock: available on every online Nuki smart lock
- PIN Code: available on smart locks equipped with a Nuki Keypad
Note: The Nuki integration is fully keyless. Unlike card-based systems, it does not issue physical key cards through the Operations Platform or Kiosk. Guest access is delivered through remote unlock and keypad PINs.
2. Preconditions & Setup
To ensure a successful integration, the following preconditions must be met.
- Nuki Web API access: A Nuki Web account with API access. LIKE MAGIC authenticates against the Nuki Web API (
https://api.nuki.io) with an API token configured per property. - Smart locks connected to Nuki Web: Every door to be managed must be a Nuki smart lock that is online and reachable through Nuki Web (via a Nuki Bridge or a built-in connection). Remote unlock requires the lock to be online.
- Nuki Keypad (for PIN access): PIN code access requires a Nuki Keypad installed on the respective smart lock. Locks without a keypad still support the remote Hold to unlock control.
3. Nuki Web API Configuration
A crucial step for the integration is providing LIKE MAGIC with a Nuki Web API token.
Configuration Steps
- Sign in to Nuki Web with an account that administers the property's smart locks.
- Generate an API token with all possible permissions.
- Share the API token securely with the LIKE MAGIC team. We store it as the per-property Nuki configuration and use it for all subsequent communication.
Security Note: The API token grants LIKE MAGIC scoped access to manage smart lock authorizations on your behalf. Please do not send these credentials via email. Instead, use a secure one-time link service such as onetimesecret.com.
4. Share Door Access Setup
After API access is in place, we set up the door access configuration with LIKE MAGIC. LIKE MAGIC reads all smart locks from your Nuki Web account and automatically matches each lock to a room by comparing the lock name with the PMS unit name. The remaining classification is confirmed together with you.
Please share the following information with the LIKE MAGIC team:
a) Private (Room) Doors
- Confirm which smart lock belongs to which room/unit, so room access can be granted to the right guest during their stay.
b) Public Door Access
- Identify all doors that should be publicly available to guests (e.g. main entrance, elevator, spa).
- Indicate whether each public door is available to all guests or only to in-house (checked-in) guests.
c) Service Doors
- Identify any doors that should be opened only for guests who booked a specific service (e.g. parking, wellness), and the corresponding service.
5. How LIKE MAGIC Interacts with Nuki
Feel free to read more about this in our Doors section.
6. Conclusion
By following the steps outlined in this guide, you have configured your Nuki system for integration with the LIKE MAGIC platform. Guest access is fully keyless, through remote Hold to unlock and keypad PIN codes.
Once you have:
- Provided a Nuki Web API token with smart lock management permissions
- Confirmed the room-to-lock assignment for private doors
- Shared the public, in-house and service door classification
report these steps via a Support Ticket. LIKE MAGIC then verifies the connection and the access management for your property.
